Dr. Sabrina Syan offers in-person sessions in the Burlington clinic, as well as virtual sessions. She works with adults and couples who are struggling to navigate various life stressors and challenges.

Dr. Syan approaches treatment with respect and empathy for her clients and enjoys working collaboratively to identify and make progress towards achieving therapeutic goals. She is deeply invested in using evidence-based methods and a trauma-informed approach to assist clients in improving their quality of life. Dr. Syan primarily draws from the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach, and tailors therapy to her clients’ individual needs by incorporating Motivational Interviewing and mindfulness-based interventions as indicated. She has held positions at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton in the Women’s Health Concern’s Clinic, Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic, Mood Disorders Unit, Clinical Neuropsychology Service, Youth Wellness Centre, Concurrent Disorders Program, and the Peter Boris Centre for Addictions Research.

Prior to completing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Syan completed a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, where she investigated the impact of reproductive hormonal fluctuations on the brain. She uses this unique background to help inform her work with her clients. In addition, Dr. Syan is an Assistant Professor (PT) at McMaster University and a Staff Psychologist at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. In this role, she has co-authored dozens of peer-reviewed manuscripts. The quality of her work and her dedication to the field has been recognized by the Lillian Rose Stegne Fellowship, St. Joseph’s Research Institute Studentship Award, Ontario Psychological Association’s Dr. Ruth Berman Early Career Psychologist Award, and the North American Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynaecology’s Steiner Young Investigator Award.

Dr. Syan makes a special effort to approach her work with clients through a culturally informed lens and is happy to provide treatment in English and Punjabi.
