MEET DR. abid azam
Dr. Azam is especially interested in assisting with:
Anxiety, perfectionism and trauma-related issues
Depression and other mood difficulties
Health-related problems (e.g., chronic pain, IBS, alcohol/cannabis use)
Life direction guidance for emerging adults
Dr. Azam works in the Milton clinic in addition to providing virtual appointments in English or Urdu. He helps adults struggling with a wide range of psychological and physical health issues.
When formulating how best to help clients, Dr. Azam uses a biopsychosocial
model, paying attention to cultural, trauma-related, and lifestyle factors (e.g.,
physical health, job/academic demands, and relationships). His treatment
approach is derived primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). From this
framework, he assists clients in better understanding the connections between
their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, to experiment with new ways to
adaptively respond to their concerns. He also integrates methods from
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, and mindfulness
skills training.
Dr. Azam completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology at York University and Pre-
Doctoral residency at CAMH (Work, Stress, & The Health Program and Health
and Wellness Center at UofT). His clinical experience also includes placements
within the York University Psychology Clinic, the UHN Toronto General &
Western Hospitals, and the McMaster University Medical Center.
