Meet Dr. Tanya Zhao
Dr. Tanya Zhao works with children, adolescents, and their families to help support them through the transitions and changes that all families encounter – whether it’s the start or change of school, changes within the family structure, or changes associated with puberty. She works within the Adlerian Individual Psychology framework which focuses on personal strengths and abilities as a source of empowerment for clients. She also draws inspiration and methods from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Within her therapeutic work, Dr. Zhao enjoys focusing on:
– Anger management and increasing emotional regulation skills
– Anxiety, depression, ADHD/ADD, and family relationships
– Conducting psycho-educational assessments/evaluations
– Treatment for young people who have endured trauma and/or abuse
Dr. Zhao adopts a client-focused approach and works hard on building trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationships with her clients. She received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Adler University in Chicago, IL, and was employed as a clinical psychologist at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center in Chicago prior to relocating to Toronto, ON. Dr. Zhao is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association.
